#nofrillsfriday 10 - a week of two extremes

Adrienne Frances May 8, 2015

The beginning of this week was dreadful.  There's no way of sugar coating it, nor would I want to (I believe we shouldn't avoid the painful parts of life as they're as important as the lovely moments) but we had to take Louis to a cardiac specialist, and the diagnosis is bad.  We've all been mostly stunned and wandering around with sore dry eyes like speechless zombies.  Louis is as much a part of Team Frilly as any of us - he's in the studio with us every day, and it's going to be tough moving forwards.  If you like dogs and sad stories (I'm selling it, right?) you can find out more on Big-hearted Boy where we've decided to focus on whatever remaining awesomeness we have left and celebrate every moment with him.

AT LAST! I can tell you all about a new kind of box I'm working on... Together with the wonder website of modern British craft @folksyhq we're creating a limited edition box full of SUPER AMAZING *all new* handmade goodies created by an outstanding array of independent makers. The box will launch on the 5th June and tonight I'm delighted to introduce five out of the fifteen makers involved: @hellohellododo have designed a dream summer screen print @frillyind have handmade a delicious retro brooch @kayleighomara has whipped up a necklace good enough to eat @kate_broughton_ has sprinkled her adorable illustrations on a fun accessory and @wearebreadandjam have made the sweetest set of paper goods. Oh my word! I'm loving working on this box!!! UK indie makers rule ok ✌️ #LDCFolksy 📷 credit: the colourful world of @hellohellododo

The latter half of the week has definitely been more positive.. We can finally discuss the secret project we've been involved in and we're ECSTATIC to announce we've been picked as one of the designers taking part in #LDCFolksy! It's a special collaboration between the amazing Lucky Dip Club (a surprise box curated by the amazing Leona Thrift-ola who previously ran jewellery label Lady Luck Rules OK which we drooled over!) and the team at Folksy!  We've designed a special item which will be in some of the boxes, but as with all of her lucky dip boxes you never quite know what you're going to get!  Once the boxes have been sent out, we'll do more of a reveal.. but we're just chuffed to be involved and with such a great collection of other artists and designers!

So far, Leona has revealed the first 5 - and we've gone and picked an item we love by each of them, so have a peek!

  1. Hello DODO have a fun summery tote (we've been playing with stick of rock designs ourselves, but not quite refined it to our liking..) and we especially love the reference to rock, paper, scissors - how could we not, with our range of 'Hands' badges?!
  2. Kayleigh O'Mara is already a favourite of ours.. we've long lusted after her deliberate and delicate acrylic jewellery - especially her Fish and Chips necklace! (Though Adrienne especially LOVES all of her nautical range too!)
  3. Kate Broughton creates gorgeous illustrations - we've bought some of her nail art stickers previously, but we've now got our eye on her Craft set!
  4. Last but not least, Bread & Jam make just the loveliest most positive bright colourful items (though never sickly sweet! Phew!) and Adrienne immediately honed in on their range of planners and organisational stationery - particularly their letter/envelopes which are gorgeous and may inspire her to start sending letters more often.. which we should all be doing, because otherwise it's just bills and junk mail, right?

Looking at all these pretty things is almost enough to take the edge of the week, so if you've had a rough one too, let us know how you take your mind off rubbish news?
